Bah humbug!
Ok I promise just one more bitch and moan and then I’ll try and think of something nice to say about something tomorrow.
Why do we spend most of the year telling our kids to not play with fire and then one night a year let them hold little sticks that have fire sparking off at all sorts of jaunty angles?
It’s not that I hate fireworks, they are alright. It’s just that the little pleasure we do gain is cancelled out by the amount of destruction they can cause, especially when they get into the wrong hands. I’m thinking of at least four cats I know who are absolutely terrified. I’m also thinking of the hedgehogs who set up home in the bonfires and finally I’m thinking of that family who were in the paper last year who had a firework chucked through their daughters bedroom window. Nice.
And last but not least I’m not so sure about the morals of the whole thing. Celebrating the torture of a man, whatever crime he may have committed, is a bit sick from where I am standing.
OK so maybe I wouldn’t ban the whole thing. Lets have just one public display per town on bonfire night, or the nearest weekend. I don’t care when so long as it’s only once. I just find the continual steam of fireworks for two weeks either side of the date just a teeny bit excessive.
And for Gods sake don’t sell them to the public, however old they might be.

Totally agree and this is why: http://www.madmusingsof.me.uk/archives/007008.php
fire crackers etc are banned here in malaysia, but that doesn't stop the public from getting it under the counter. some even resort to making their own fire works which is far more dangerous. every year, during festive seasons especially, i read about kids losing fingers and limbs from playing with self made fire works. so you see, imposing a ban might actually do more harm than good. i guess parents that do get fireworks for their kids should exercise extreme care at all times.
